Samuel Weller Singer (1783 - 1858)

Samuel Weller Singer, author and editor; from 1827 he had been Librarian at the Royal Institute, Albemarle. He wrote in 1816 in young years a voluminous work about playing cards and their history, an edition of 250 books only. He got some fame as early editor of Shakespeare's works. His work to the playing cards is now online on the web.
