| Samuel Weller Singer (1783–1858), author and editor; from 1827 he had been Librarian at the Royal Institute, Albemarle. He wrote in 1816 in young years a voluminous work about playing cards and their history, an edition of 250 books only. He got some fame as early editor of Shakespeare's works.
